You found the perfect dress while on your trip of a lifetime to New York City at Macy’s Herald Square, but it doesn’t fit quite right. What do you do? Before you head back home, stop by the Alterations Department located in the Men’s Department. Whether it’s a man’s suit, woman’s suit, dress, skirt or dress shirt, the talented tailors at Macy’s can make it fit like it was made for you.

The Alterations Department is located on the 5th Floor in the Men’s Department. Depending on when you come in, you may meet Gildo who does most of the fittings and works with customers on the floor. He is amazing! There are also 11 other skilled tailors at Macy's Herald Square during store hours for your tailoring needs.

When I stopped by to get a pair of pants hemmed, Gildo was hard at work putting the finishing touches on a customer's tuxedo that needed to be ready for an event the next day. I watched as he expertly pressed the tuxedo. The rest of the staff was cutting, trimming and hemming, surrounded by racks of clothes and suits, as well as some incredible sewing equipment.

The alteration service goes back to Macy’s early years and continues today to be one of the great services the store offers. In fact, Macy’s is one of the few retailers in the country that still offers alterations.

Should you find yourself travelling to a city other than New York, there are also alterations departments in hundreds of Macy’s stores across the country, including stores in major tourist cities like San Francisco Union Square, Chicago State Street, Aventura and Dadeland in Miami, South Coast Plaza in Los Angeles and Lenox Square in Atlanta, to name a few.

The alteration fees vary by task, with an extra $15 charge for next-day service. This may come in handy for the tourist who is headed home sooner rather than later.

Remember that visitors can save 10% on thousands of items that can be altered right in the store. Click here for your Visitor Savings Pass.
