Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Did you know that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was originally known as the Macy’s Christmas Parade and was started by a small group of Macy’s employees and featured animals from the Central Park Zoo?  Fast forward 88 years, and it is now the most spectacular holiday event in the world.  The parade features 8,000 volunteers and is watched live by 3.5 million people on the streets of Manhattan and another 50 million watching on TV.

The 2014 edition of the parade is sure to be a crowd pleaser, with special guests Idina Menzel (‘‘Let it Go’!) Nick Jonas (swoon), and KISS (rock and roll!).  As well as countless balloons, floats, marching bands and clowns.

If you plan to watch live on the 2.5 mile parade route you should arrive early…like 6:00 AM!  Camp out on Central Park West from 59th to 75th streets for the best view.  If you prefer to arrive later the best place to watch is further down the route on 6th Avenue.

Also, for the first time ever, you can enjoy a bird's-eye-view of the magnificent procession from Stella 34 Trattoria's panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows on the 6th floor of Macy's Herald Square.  Catch a glimpse of all of your favorite floats and characters from above, while enjoying a generous Italian-inspired brunch and Thanksgiving-themed activities - all from the comfort of Stella 34 Trattoria's dining room overlooking Herald Square.   Click here for more information and to make reservations or call Stella 34 at 212.967.9251.

When the Parade is over and you have had your fill of turkey and stuffing (YUM!), Macy’s stores are opening at 6:00 pm for the official start of the holiday shopping season.   If you are in Manhattan, stop by Herald Square and pick up your Visitor Savings pass on the Mezzanine Level of the store.

Enjoy the show and the shopping!

Happy Thanksgiving!
