Fashion and “dressing to the nines” are always associated with teenage girls and women. From wearing the latest lip color and carrying the perfect handbag to completing a look with a pair of killer heels, women never miss a beat. However, what about our boys and men? Have you noticed how trendy their sock game is lately or how well thought out their outfits are?

How can they learn to be creative with their outer appearance? By participating in Macy’s Modern Man!

On Sunday, June 14, 2015, Macy’s Herald Square launched its newest group program—Macy’s Modern Man. This event, led by stylist Carlton Spence, was designed to educate young men about how to dress for success and included instruction on how to tie both a regular and bow tie, pair the perfect tie and pocket square, understand proper fit and measurements, and practice the art of shaving. Every young boy and teen attendee left the program a “groomed man.”

The event took place in the newly renovated men’s suits department on the 5th floor, with over 100 participants—83 of them were 12-18 years old. Many of these young men were members of youth organizations, such as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Save Our Sons Network; and the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.

Brands like Bespoke and Nick Graham were enthused by the event and each provided giveaways such as bow ties and dress shirts for the participants.

“I'm also grateful for the shirt with the tie included. Now I have a dress for senior dinner. It just shows the effort in what kind of men you want us to become,” stated young achiever Kevin Lassiter.
