The 2016 Chinese Lunar New Year takes place on February 8, 2016—a new moon day and, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar system, the first day of the Chinese zodiac Year of the Monkey. Millions of people the world over will be celebrating, and Macy’s is marking the occasion with special events, savings opportunities and products from January 25-February 27, 2016.

Macy’s is offering a 15% off Visitor Savings Pass, valid at all store locations, from February 5-20, 2016.

Macy’s customers have access to an exclusive Lunar New Year Gift With Purchase offer: Spend $100 or more and you’ll receive a Year of the Monkey wristlet. The offer is valid at the New York Herald Square, San Francisco, Chicago State Street and Downtown LA stores.
Lunar New Year Shopping Package
In certain locations, Macy’s shoppers also have an opportunity to purchase a Lunar New Year Shopping Package for $35. It includes an exclusive Year of the Monkey Tote bag, VIP Passport and additional offers that vary by location. The shopping package is available in the Visitor Centers in the Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York stores.
Lunar New Year Gift Card
A red and gold Lunar New Year Gift Card featuring a monkey is available to purchase in 65 Macy’s stores across the country. You’ll find them next to store registers.
San Francisco Lunar New Year Parade
San Francisco’s Chinese New Year celebration is one of the largest and most spectacular in the world, and it includes a Lunar New Year Parade that will take place on Saturday, February 20.
The parade starts at 5:15 pm at the corner of 2nd and Market Streets, weaves through Chinatown and ends at Jackson and Kearny Streets at around 8 pm.
Several floats will be featured—be sure to catch the Macy’s float!
Lunar New Year Events at Other Macy’s Stores
Macy’s stores in other locations are celebrating the Lunar New Year with additional activities, such as lion dancers, children crafts and cooking demos. Below is a schedule of in-store events and mall events, where relevant.
- Feb. 6, 2 pm—Southcenter in Tukwila, WA.
All-day mall events: Macy’s is also partnering with Southcenter Mall’s celebration in their center court, just outside the Macy’s cosmetics door. Cosmetic events will occur throughout the day, both inside the store and in the mall.
- Feb. 11, 6 pm—Herald Square in NYC
- Feb. 13, 2 pm—South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA; Santa Anita in Arcadia, CA
- Feb. 13, 1 pm—Flushing in Queens, NY
- Feb. 20, 1 pm—Valley Fair in Santa Clara, CA
Mall events: Macy’s is also participating in Valley Fair Mall’s center court celebration. Two informal models wearing “LNY occasion outfits” assembled by a stylist will be passing out special offers for in-store merchandise.

Gucci is offering a Gift With Purchase for Gucci Guilty fragrance—a red cosmetics pouch.
