Burger Bar at Macy's Union Square

Burger Bar on the sixth floor of Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco overlooks bustling Union Square and caters to tourists and locals alike with inventive takes on classic American foods created by local celebrity chef, Hubert Keller. Keller is known to millions through his many cookbooks and imaginative French cuisine.

The restaurant’s tag line is “The Ultimate Burger Experience & More,” which is quite apt given the breadth of creative menu selections and the acclaim they’ve earned. The Chef’s Burgers section features eight unconventional concoctions, including the World’s Hottest Burger, made of black angus stuffed with Burger Bar’s World’s hottest Burger Sauce and both habanero and jalapeno peppers (it’s rated at 5,000,000 Scoville Units—a measurement of spicy heat); the chef’s namesake Hubert Keller Burger, made with buffalo meat and blue cheese; and the Rossini burger, made with Kobe style wagyu beef, fois gras and shaved black truffles.

Guests can also customize their burger by selecting from a list of eight different of proteins and a wide range of toppings, from chili and fried egg to various cheeses, vegetables and sauces. Starters, salads, various sides and fish & chips and hotdogs are also available.

But Keller’s Burger Bar offerings extend well beyond burgers and sides. The eatery is also renowned for mouthwatering items that satisfy your sweet tooth—both traditional treats and wholly unconventional ones, such as dessert-style burgers (Sweet Burgers) and alcoholic “Adult Milkshakes,” with tempting names like Red Velvet and Horchata Spice.  Customers can also build their own milkshake—the combinations are endless considering the extent of Burger Bar’s list of toppings, liquor, fruits and sauces.

The irresistible Chocolate Burger sandwiches Nutella mousse, passion fruit, fresh strawberries and kiwi between two warm donut halves, and the Creamy Cheese Cake Burger stacks cheese cake, carmelized pineapple and fresh strawberries between the donut halves.

Marc Burger at Macy’s State Street in Chicago and Macy’s South Coast Plaza Home Store, Costa Mesa, CA

Chef Marcus Samuelsson

When Chef Marc Samuelsson was growing up in Sweden, a burger was a special treat. Today, he regards burgers as the ultimate comfort food-- something that should be prepped with the same concern for quality and detail as the fine dining dishes he is known for. At Marc Burger, his namesake restaurant located at Macy’s on State Street in Chicago and Macy’s South Coast Plaza Home Store, the chef uses only top-notch ingredients sourced from local artisanal farms and ranches.

The menu includes eight meat burgers, ranging from a Smoky BBQ Burger to a Pesto Burger, all garnished with pickles made with recipes handed down by the chef’s grandmother and distinctive homemade condiments, including spicy ketchup, steak sauce and BBQ sauce. Beef burgers are made with grass-fed, hormone-free Angus beef. Delicious non-meat options include a Grilled Fish Sandwich made with miso soy-marinated and citrus-glazed Mahi-Mahi; a piri piri-marinated Chicken Breast Sandwich and a Portobello Sandwich.

Alluring sides, such as Garlic and Cracked-Pepper Fries and custard milkshakes made with Haagen Dazs ice cream, flesh out the Marc Burger menu. The restaurant also features weekly specials that celebrate America’s diverse culinary traditions.

Rowland's Bar & Grill at Macy's Herald Square

Burgers, beers and other classic American gastropub fare (some given a New York twist) drive an extensive menu at Rowlands, a sleek bar and grill located at Macy’s Herald Square, One Below. In Rowland’s, you’ll not only find an oasis from the midtown Manhattan hubbub but delectable takes on the American burger.

Two burgers take center stage among menu sections that include various specials—from Halibut to Crispy Chicken to a St. Louis Half Rack; zesty starters, such as Shrimp & Grits; soups like Smoked Fish Chowder; four different salads available as small or large portions; sandwiches like Pork Banh Mi and House-Smoked Pastrami; and several sides that make for ideal accompaniments to burgers—for example, Roasted Mushrooms and Crispy Spring Onions.

The two delicious burgers offered on the main menu are: 1) The Burger, which presents a signature beef blend patty topped with a ‘special sauce’ on a challah bun from Amy’s and 2) RH Burger, which stuffs the signature beef blend patty with bacon, comte cheese and onion. All burgers and sandwiches are served with steak fries. A dedicated Kids menu features a Cheeseburger option and French Fries.

Dessert lovers will find plenty of scrumptious treats to satisfy their cravings, including the R.H. Apple Pie with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream; Brooklyn Blackout—a rich and delicious take on devil’s food; and various housemade ice creams.  A Soft Serve Milkshake is available for kids.
