Macy's 4th of July Fireworks

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

The Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks® show celebrates America’s birthday with patriotic standards and dazzling sparkles that light up the New York skyline in a show unlike any other.

Macy’s works hand-in-hand with the best pyrotechnic team in the business to design and install tens of thousands of dazzling effects, all choreographed to an Independence Day medley. Macy's 4th of July Fireworks® is the largest Independence Day fireworks display in the nation and the single show against which all others are measured.

The Fireworks are broadcast live on NBC-TV during a two-hour entertainment special that also features performances from the world’s biggest music stars. Performers during past Macy’s Fireworks broadcasts have included artists such as Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, and Katy Perry. Macy's Fireworks take place from a number of barges firing simultaneously in waterways surrounding New York City. More than 15 million viewers tune into NBC's telecast and nearly 3 million spectators view the live show from positions along the river.

The 2019 Fireworks Showcased the Brooklyn Bridge

Incorporating landmarks and celebratory milestones is a Macy’s Fireworks signature. For the 2019 presentation, Macy’s fully integrated the Brooklyn Bridge with a design that showcased approximately 25,000 shells and effects launching from the span. From the opening sequence representing the silver screen and featuring a dramatic silver hued pyrotechnic curtain unfurling from below the bridge to stunning multicolored waterfalls and chase scenes, a host of dazzling and intricate effects were fired from more than 100 locations spanning the entire bridge, its towers and roadways.

The musical score is the basis for the fireworks choreography and, in 2019, it featured patriotic classics such as “America the Beautiful” and “Stars & Stripes Forever,” along with world-famous instrumentals from classic American films. With MGM’s The Wizard of Oz turning 80 this year, Macy’s Fireworks pre-recorded score also featured Oscar® and Grammy® Award winning artist Jennifer Hudson performing its most beloved song—”Over the Rainbow.”
