Founder Profile: Evelyn Overton and Family

Evelyn Overton created the original cheesecake in the 1940’s and supplied cakes baked in her own St. Louis kitchen to several local restaurants while she raised her family. In 1972, she and her husband Oscar moved to Los Angeles and launched The Cheesecake Factory Bakery there, which sold cheesecakes to local restaurants. Their son David opened the first restaurant in 1978 in Beverly Hills, CA.  An immediate success, it led to over 200 additional restaurants around the world.
