Tour Time at Macy’s Boston

Macy's Boston offers a Macy’s Retail 101 Tours and Macy’s History Tours that teach visitors about the company's history and innovative retail practices.

Boston is a city that values history and education. This should come as no surprise given the fact that the city played a central role in the establishment of the United States and has some of the best colleges in the country (here’s looking at you, Harvard and MIT). Visitors to Boston appreciate its essential character and Macy’s Boston store caters to them with an educational tour and history tour for groups that provides an opportunity to learn all about Macy's business practices, and our company's past and present.

Macy’s Retail 101 Tour

Macy’s is a big business with over 600 stores throughout the country. Have you ever wondered how we manage such a huge company and create a unique experience for customers at each of our stores? If so, then you must take the Macy’s Retail 101 Tour! You’ll get to learn about Macy’s business strategies, marketing programs, merchandising techniques and more.

Macy’s History Tour

In Boston, we are proud of being a city of firsts. Boston is home to the first public park — the Boston Common (just blocks away from Macy’s), the first underground metro, the first telephone demonstration and more.

Macy's Boston Jordan Marsh Plaque

Macy’s holds the distinction of instituting many firsts in the retail industry. We encourage you to take the History Tour to discover them. Our tour guide will reveal the practices Macy’s introduced to retail and share the story of Macy’s Boston roots, dating back to our founder, Roland Hussey Macy. But that’s not all; we will also share colorful stories about Macy’s predecessor in Boston, the Jordan Marsh department store.

Both the Macy’s Retail 101 Tour and the Macy’s History Tour are available for private groups of 10 or more. The educational tour is 60 minutes and costs $12 per person; and the history tour is 45 minutes and costs $10 per person.
