In Boston, we are proud of being a city of firsts. Boston is home to the first public park — the Boston Common (just blocks away from Macy’s), the first underground metro, the first telephone demonstration and more.

Macy's Boston Jordan Marsh Plaque

Macy’s holds the distinction of instituting many firsts in the retail industry. We encourage you to take the History Tour to discover them. Our tour guide will reveal the practices Macy’s introduced to retail and share the story of Macy’s Boston roots, dating back to our founder, Roland Hussey Macy. But that’s not all; we will also share colorful stories about Macy’s predecessor in Boston, the Jordan Marsh department store.

Both the Macy’s Retail 101 Tour and the Macy’s History Tour are available for private groups of 10 or more. The educational tour is 60 minutes and costs $12 per person; and the history tour is 45 minutes and costs $10 per person.
